This is a bar that actually means it when they say they’re for the entire queer community—trans folks, nonbinary people, lesbians, and gay men all hang out here without anyone feeling like they’re in someone else’s space.

The layout centers around a long catwalk where drag shows happen multiple nights a week. They also do karaoke, burlesque, and bingo depending on the night. If you come on a weekday, it’s pretty chill with mostly locals. Weekends get packed and turn into full dance parties.

The chicken tenders and burgers here are actually good, which is a nice bonus. Drinks are reasonably priced with plenty of fruity options if that’s your thing. Their event Mx. specifically celebrates gender diversity, so you’ll find other trans people here pretty consistently. It’s a solid spot for a first date or meeting new people—the vibe is welcoming enough that you can strike up conversations without it feeling forced or someone making it all about your sexual orientation.

Blake’s on the Park

Located right across from Piedmont Park at Atlanta’s rainbow crosswalk, Blake’s has been around since 1990 and draws a big, mixed crowd seven nights a week. The space is split into different areas—some for dancing, some for hanging out—so you can choose your energy level.

When you’re on the dance floor, screens play music videos while the DJ spins remixes. The vibe is definitely high-energy, especially on weekends. While it started as more of a gay men’s bar, these days you’ll see trans women, trans men, and people across the spectrum, especially during their regular drag shows and themed nights.

Drinks are strong and the bartenders know what they’re doing. It’s open late (until 3am on weekends), which gives you options if you’re meeting someone after dinner or want to make a night of it. The crowd skews younger on weekend nights, but you’ll find all ages throughout the week. Good spot for meeting people since it’s busy enough that you’re not super visible but not so packed you can’t actually talk.

Oilcan Harry’s

211 W 4th St, Austin, TX 78701

Oilcan Harry’s has been Austin’s go-to LGBTQ+ bar since 1990. You’ll go through a security check when you enter (bag check and metal detector wand), which might seem intense but honestly feels reassuring given the current climate. The staff is efficient and friendly about it.

Inside, there’s a huge outdoor patio that’s perfect when you need air, plus multiple bar areas so you’re rarely waiting long for drinks. They have drag shows literally every night of the week—Wednesday features Latina performers, there’s a drag king night, and Saturday’s “Best Drag Show Ever” is exactly what it sounds like.

The bathrooms are gender-neutral with shared stalls, so there might be a line during busy times but at least you don’t have to pick a side. Drink specials rotate throughout the week, and the crowd is genuinely mixed. You’ll see gay men, lesbians, trans folks, and straight allies all hanging out together. For a first date, the outdoor patio works well—you can actually hear each other talk. If you’re looking to dance and meet people, pretty much any weekend night delivers.

Tavern on Camac

243 S Camac St, Philadelphia, PA 19107

This place has been operating in the trans dating world since way back, and it’s got three floors that each do something different. Downstairs is the restaurant with good American food and a cozy vibe—exposed brick, dim lighting, solid for an actual date where you want to eat something decent.

Street level is the piano bar, which is honestly the main draw. Someone’s playing piano every night and taking requests, mostly show tunes. The crowd gets into it and everyone’s singing along. It’s campy and fun without feeling exclusive. Top floor is the nightclub with DJs and a dance floor.

No cover charge most nights, which is rare for Philly. Drinks aren’t cheap but they’re well-made. The whole place has this historic feel to it—you can tell it’s been serving the queer community for decades. Trans folks are part of the regular crowd here, and the staff is professional and welcoming across all three floors. If you’re meeting someone for the first time, the piano bar gives you something to do besides stare at each other, which takes pressure off.

Mary’s

1287 Glenwood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316

Mary’s is in East Atlanta Village, away from the main Midtown scene, and it has this divey, unpretentious vibe that regulars love. When you walk in, you’re basically on the dance floor immediately. The space is narrow with string lights and changing colored patterns on the floor—kind of psychedelic when the DJs get going.

You’ll see trans women, trans men, lesbians, gay men, nonbinary folks all hanging out together. Wednesday is karaoke night with thousands of songs to choose from. Thursday has drag shows. Friday and Saturday rotate DJs who play alternative and indie stuff, not just top 40. There’s an upstairs area if you want to escape the main floor, and a back patio for smokers.

Bartenders pour strong drinks for decent prices. $5 cover after 9pm, free before. Parking in EAV can be annoying, but most people say it’s worth it. This is a good spot for meeting people organically—it’s busy enough that you’re not super conspicuous but chill enough that people actually talk to each other. The lack of pretension makes it easier to just be yourself.

CC Slaughters

219 NW Davis St, Portland, OR 97209

CC Slaughters has been around since 1981 and sits right at the edge of Portland’s Old Town area. It’s connected to the Rainbow Room, so you’re getting two spaces in one—a lounge side and a dance club side depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Thursday nights are specifically for the trans community with “Trans-UHH-Licious” hosted by Sheniqua Volt and Diva Dott. It’s one of the few nights explicitly created for trans folks in Portland, so you’ll find other people there for the same reason. Other nights have EDM, drag shows, burlesque, piano bar performances, and rotating DJs.

Drinks are affordable and the music tends toward classic gay club hits. You might recognize some of the drag performers from TV—several RuPaul’s Drag Race queens have performed here. The place almost closed in 2025 but the community rallied to keep it open, which tells you how important it is to Portland’s queer scene.

The atmosphere is welcoming for an amazing trans dating experience without being over the top about it. Staff is friendly, crowd is mixed with queer women, men, and it’s been through enough iterations that they know how to make different types of people feel comfortable. Good for ts dating when you want somewhere with enough energy to be fun but not so intense you can’t actually meet someone.

Club Cafe

209 Columbus Ave, Boston, MA 02116

Club Cafe is in Boston’s South End and it’s basically three venues in one building. Ground floor is the restaurant where you can get actual food—American fare, nothing fancy but well-executed. The Napoleon Room is where cabaret and drag shows happen throughout the week. And there’s a dance floor in back with DJs most nights.

Wednesday karaoke nights are popular. Friday they do Drag Race viewing parties. Sunday brunch includes performances, which is a whole scene. The outdoor patio is solid when weather permits. You’ll pay a cover for some special events but many nights are free.

The crowd skews a bit older than some other spots, which can be refreshing if you’re tired of college-aged bar scenes. Trans folks are part of the regular mix here, and the venue has made efforts to center LGBTQ+ staff and performers. Hours vary—they’re open latest Thursday through Saturday until 2am.

This is a decent option for a first date because you have choices. If dinner goes well, you can stay for piano bar or dancing. If you need an exit, you had dinner and that’s a natural endpoint. The longevity of the place (it’s been serving Boston’s queer community for decades) means they’ve figured out how to make different people comfortable.

The Saloon

830 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403

The Saloon opened in 1977 and it’s huge—four different bar areas, a big dance floor, pool tables, and a lounge with a fireplace. Located in downtown Minneapolis, it’s one of the biggest LGBTQ+ venues in the Midwest.

One section plays Top 40 with music videos, another is more lounge-y, the main bar has the dance floor that stays packed most nights. They’ve got go-go dancers, drag shows, karaoke, and themed parties rotating through the week. The shower platform with dancers has become a signature thing here.

Food from the grill is cheap and good—burgers, chicken fingers, wings all under $10. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced. They open at noon and stay open until 2am or 3am depending on the night. The place had a fire in 2024 but reopened in 2025 because the community wasn’t going to let it disappear.

For meeting people, it’s big enough that you don’t feel like everyone’s watching you but active enough that you’ll run into new people. The crowd is mixed across age and identity—trans women, trans men, gay men, lesbians, everyone shows up here. Their Pride Block Party is one of the Twin Cities’ biggest events. Good spot for groups or solo, depending on your comfort level.

Pony

1221 E Pike St, Seattle, WA 98122

Pony is the only gay bar in Seattle with an outdoor fire pit, which is honestly the perfect detail. It’s in Capitol Hill and has that cozy dive bar feel—vintage gay porn on the walls, a photo booth, bartenders who actually know how to make drinks.

Go-go dancers perform on weekends. Sunday at 4pm they do tea dance. Karaoke nights are surprisingly good—people actually show up to sing, not just to judge. The crowd gets younger and more packed as the night goes on, so come earlier if you want space to breathe and talk.

The fire pit outside is clutch when you need a break from the energy inside but don’t want to fully leave. It gets cold in Seattle, so having that warmth while you’re chatting with someone is nice. Bartenders are friendly and pour well.

This isn’t a scene-heavy place. Trans girls, boys and nonbinary folks come here regularly because it’s genuinely chill without being boring.
